Internet Network Marketing Exclusively Through Online Methods – Will That Really Work?
With all this hub bub about online methods of building networks, it is quite evident that most people think that they can do away with the old school methods of calling friends and family forever.
People think that they do not need to talk to their prospects or have a friendship with them because the Internet is strong enough to push the ball to the hole. With the introduction of blogs, Facebook and Twitter, this feeling has become much more pronounced. The question every marketer asks early into their careers is, “Which methods, online or offline, are the most effective in building Network Marketing businesses?”
Now, one cannot answer this question right away because there are ups and downs to both these methods.
When you speak about offline methods of building a network marketing business, you are limited in numbers. Offline, you could meet only a few people and you have to take the time to drive to their house and meet them.
The very fact that you are not meeting a large number of people reduces your prospects drastically. It also entails a lot of expense because you have to travel to meet the person and also entertain them while you are meeting them. Most marketers have an ideology that they have to impress their clients to get them to join the network which adds to the expense.
At the same time, online methods have their pitfalls too. Most puritans in the field of network marketing would say that one cannot make personal relations when prospecting online, and network marketing is all about building human relations. They would also say that you tend to sponsor the wrong people in your network when you are prospecting through the Internet because you cannot see the person. You might end up taking a lot of people in your network who do not bring in new members, leading to stagnation.
So, there are diametrically opposite viewpoints here.
But the best answer would be this – we have to take the best of both methods. The most optimal solution would be to prospect clients through the Internet, and then to prospect them with a physical meeting when their interest has been piqued.
In short, the Internet could be used as a medium for lead generation, but for really closing the deal so to say, the best way would be to communicate with them via FaceBook and the telephone and get to know them.
Of course, meeting them in person is not possible because you cannot travel every time to where the client is. In any case, Social media (Web 2.0) is a solution that you can use. In all other instances, you can use the Internet to find your prospects and then use your best judgement to separate the men from the boys. But using exclusively online methods for building a network on which your business is pegged as a risky proposition.
